Local Standout

At high tide, visitors get two islands for the price of one.

ANYONE WHO HAS SAILED THE WATERS OFF FREEPORT, MAINE, IN CASCO BAY KNOWS there’s more than meets the eye come high tide. While Bustin’s Island may appear to be an ordinary landmass much of the day, during high tide “Nubble,” as this house is known to locals, shows a streak of true Maine independence. The rising waters separate it from Bustin’s and create a second, miniature island of rock.
