Yes, a leisurely ride in a horse-drawn carriage makes for a lovely excursion. But a winter afternoon spent traversing snow-covered forests and meadows with a spunky band of Alaskan huskies is a wild one. This two-hour adventure, led by the dogsled pros at Northern Exposure Outfitters (headquartered in historic Brookfield near the Quaboag River), allows participants to get in on every step of the experience—from prepping the animals to learning mushing commands to even trying their hand at driving. Once you’ve been, you’ll know just what we mean by “Hike!”

$250 for two people, $100 for each additional rider, $300 for a private mushing lesson; 52 Longhill Rd., Brookfield, 508-867-4396, ne-outfitters.com.
