Tea with a Twist

AFTERNOON TEA IS A FAVORITE ritual for Lisa Tung, director and curator of the Bakalar and Paine galleries at Massachusetts College of Art and Design; it’s her one moment devoted completely to unwinding with friends. Though she occasionally sips at the Four Seasons, the South Ender would love to host her own party — if only she had artist Cindy Sherman’s 21-piece tea set ($7,000), available at the Barbara Krakow Gallery. “The color borders on kitsch, and the pictures of Cindy as Madame de Pompadour are ingenious,” Tung says.“From the small single knots on the handles to the slight fluting on the plate edges, it happily merges art and food for everyday.”
