Guests at the Boston Opera House Monday night were filled with glee after the announcement of Broadway in Boston’s 2015-2016 season. As President Rich Jaffe revealed the shows one by one, each prompting more audible approval than the last.
The 2015-2016 season will welcome back Pippin, the Tony Award-winning musical originally produced at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge. Artistic director Diane Paulus was in attendance to express “how happy and grateful” she was for Pippin to return to Boston. Paulus also teased the already-convinced audience that she’s made even more changes for the touring version of the show, so those who saw Pippin at the A.R.T. should still check it out at Broadway in Boston.
The other Broadway shows headed to Boston are The Book of Mormon, If/Then, Beauty and the Beast, The Sound of Music, Matilda, Cinderella, and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.
Following the success of an autism-friendly performance of The Lion King last year, Jaffe announced that Broadway in Boston plans to do the same this coming season for Cinderella. You can learn more about that October 4 show at AutismSpeaks.org.
Finally, Jaffe also debuted a new Broadway in Boston app, meant to keep audiences better connected with the organization.
