Get Ready to Hoof It

We’ve got good news, and we’ve got bad news.

The good? It’s going to be a fun weekend in Boston.

1213366984The bad news? City-dwellers are warned that getting around town is going to be well nigh impossible this weekend, thanks to several parades, festivals, and train repairs.

While I’m sad to miss out on the festivities, I’m happy I picked this weekend to leave town.

The transportation troubles start tonight with the Boston Dyke March, which will tie traffic up around the Boston Common.

The good times continue tomorrow morning. The MBTA will be running shuttle buses between the Park Street and Kendall stops on the Red Line to repair faulty rail ties on the Longfellow Bridge, so leave extra time to get downtown for the Pride Parade. There will also be a festival on City Hall Plaza.

The Red Line will continue running shuttles on Sunday. Charlestown will be the nightmare spot of the day thanks to a couple of road races and Bunker Hill Day celebrations. Brookline will also have road closures due to its Flag Day celebrations.

Our advice? Remember how Boston dubbed itself America’s Walking City? Get your sneakers on, kids.
