Snow Report: Valentine’s Day Deals Galore
Ah, February. It’s the month where snow lovers can most reliably expect snow to fall across New England and so far, we’re off to a pretty good month of winter action. This President’s Day weekend looks like it will be a very cold one, but that shouldn’t discourage you from hitting the slopes. Resorts throughout New England have all kinds of deal in place to entice you to the mountains for a fun a weekend. One thing to remember, though: This is one of the busiest weekends of the year for most resorts, so expect a crowd wherever you go.
President’s Day Deals and Events
Stratton, one of the handful of resorts in New England with a real village at its base, has a week packed with live music and food events. Plus, deals are easily available at the Vermont resort. Check out everything going on at Stratton here. Definitely sign up for the romantic Valentine’s Day brunch at the Base Lodge. If Stratton is a bit too far for you, check out the $99 couples lift tickets at Ragged Mountain. The New Hampshire resort is teaming up with Liftopia to provide skiers with what almost amounts to a two-for-one lift ticket deal. Ragged is home to the only six-pack chairlift in all of New England.
Sugarloaf is hosting the Maine Ski Museum’s Ninth Annual Ski Heritage Classic, an event where entrants race in vintage ski gear. Jay Peak is offering a special seven course Valentine’s Day dinner at The Clubhouse Grille for $60 per person. And if you’re scrambling to make a last minute trip, check out Sunday River, where Presidents’ Day deals start at just $125.
Saddleback May Be Toast
The third largest resort in Maine, Saddleback, will not open this week. The resort has been plagued all winter by a series of setbacks that have prevented it from opening. Owners of the resort reportedly signed a sales agreement for the property in January, but a buyer has not been publicly announced.

Big Air at Fenway
The first ever freestyle skiing competition at a Major League Baseball stadium is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday at Fenway Park. Big Air at Fenway, the last stop on the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s Grand Prix tour, will feature the best skiers and snowboarders in the world jumping off a 150-foot tower and landing where home plate normally is. Tickets for the event start at $30. You can also check out the snowmaking process.
