Colts Fans Boo the Champion

1200496685New England fans hate the Colts, and vice-versa. We know this. It hasn’t come to the level of a Sox-Yankees rivalry quite yet, but Indianapolis fans did their best to ratchet up the hate by booing a 14-year-old girl in a Patriots jersey.

Did we mention she is 14?

During last weekend’s playoff game in Indianapolis, Anna Grant of Stratham, New Hampshire, wore a Patriots jersey to accept an award for winning a Punt, Pass, and Kick competition for her age group. Instead of politely applauding, the Colts fans raucously booed her.

For her part, she seems to be taking it in stride.

“Before I went down there, my friends said, ‘You know, you’ll probably get booed,'” she said in a telephone interview. “I was kind of waiting for it.

“It really didn’t bother me at all,” she added. “People at the game came up to me afterward and said, ‘It’s not you. It’s your jersey.'”

But Patriots owner Bob Kraft feels bad for Anna, and offered her the opportunity to be on the field for the coin flip at this Sunday’s game against the Chargers.

“Why should a champion be booed?” the boss of the three-time Super Bowl winners said Tuesday. “She won an intensive competition. She’s supposed to be honored.”

Indeed. Stay classy, Colts fans!
