Scott Brown, Elizabeth Warren Support Not Taxing Olympic Prizes

When we see our Olympians on the podium with a chunk of metal hanging around their necks, we don’t really think about how the IRS is back home, waiting for them to pay up. But the Herald, apparently, is. Brown, Warren, and other politicians are supporting a measure that would grant a tax exemption to the honorariums for Olympic golds ($25,000), silvers ($15,000), and bronzes ($10,000). But Mike Eruzione, a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, says that’s the last thing on Olympians’ minds. “Maybe it’s a politician trying to get publicity,” Eruzione told the Herald. “You try to keep politics out of the Olympic Games. Is it somebody trying to get some recognition?” [Herald]
