Bake Sale for Japan

This Saturday, April 2, local eateries and amateur bakers across the nation are selling sweet treats to raise money for victims of the earthquake in Japan. Cambridge’s Upstairs on the Square and Jamaica Plain’s Ula Café are taking up the cause for Boston, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both locations will offer an assortment of homemade cakes, pies, cookies, scones, muffins, and donuts baked with love by 20 plus local bakeries and food bloggers.

“I bake for a living, so if I can bake and raise money for the disaster then that’s what we’ll do,” says Korinn Koslofsky, owner of Ula Café. Both participating restaurants hope to reach their goal of $2,500 to go toward the Peace Winds Japan relief fund.

At Ula Café, the pastry chefs have prepared four dozen caramel-filled sesame-coconut-macadamia shortbread cookies and Clear Flour Bakery donated loaves of their signature fresh bread. Cambridge restaurants like Henrietta’s Table, Rialto, and Harvest have also donated desserts, but you don’t need a chef’s hat to give to the cause. As long as baked goods are individually wrapped and all ingredients are listed, anybody with a big heart and sweet tooth can contribute.
