Why should fine dining battle endlessly with our wallets? For one hour nightly, this J.P. joint opens its doors to those craving local oysters at one dollar a pop, so you can slurp away your financial woes to the piquancy of raw heaven. ($1 each; 5 pm – 6 pm; Canary Square, 435 South Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain. 617-524-2500; canarysquare.com)

Tuesday 8/30: Beer Tuesdays at Sel de la Terre, Back Bay
Looking for a weeknight cap? Search no farther than this beer lineup, carefully selected based on weekly themes and offered alongside four French courses. Savor tomorrow’s four “Beers of the Cloth” picks while expert Seth Mandeville dishes details on the featured beverages. Saturday 9/3: Shy Brothers Farm Tasting at American Provisions
For the nibblers in town, this edition of Provisions’ weekly tasting series will showcase bite-sized artisan cheeses dubbed “Hannahbells” by their Westport creators. The Santos brothers hand-craft these babies — which some refer to as buttons or thimbles — in exotic flavors like lavender bud. If you’d rather keep it simple, you can always opt for the rosemary or classic French versions. (free; 11 am – 2 pm; American Provisions, 613 East Broadway, South Boston. 617-269-6100; americanprovisions.com & shybrothersfarm.com) — Ursula Munn
