A Complete Guide to Extreme Beer Fest After-Parties

Trillium's 2nd anniversary party at Publick House, a brunch with Dogfish Head's Sam Calagione, and more.

Extreme Beer Fest, BeerAdvocate‘s three-day homage to all things creative, cutting-edge, and boozy in the beer world, has long been sold-out. But that doesn’t mean ticketless beer nerds will be shut out of this year’s festivities. On the contrary, there are a number of meet and greets, brunches, after-parties, and pre-parties (most gratis) happening all over town. Below, your guide to all the madness happening outside of the Seaport World Trade Center.

Bukowski Tavern Boston

Bukowski’s is hosting an after-party with Bellaire, Michigan standout Short’s Brewing on Friday, March 20. Beers include their Black Chai Ale, Liberator, Sacred Union, Soft Parade, and Swirl Stout.

March 20, 50 Dalton St., Boston; 617-437-9999 or bukowskitavern.net.

Bukowski Tavern Cambridge

Bukowski’s other location is going to be throwing down with Anderson Valley the first night of EBF. Come hang with the Anderson Valley crew and taste some delicious and rare West Coast beers paired with chef Brian Poe’s wild game burgers. Anderson Valley beers on tap will include their Highway 128 blood orange gose, Spring Hornin IPA, Heelch O’ Hops double IPA, Boont Barl bourbon barrel-aged amber, Mendo Mellow pale ale, and Horse Tongue sour wheat.

March 20, 1280 Cambridge St., Cambridge; 617-497-7077 or bukowskitavern.net.

The Independent

The Independent in Somerville will play host to breweries attending the Extreme Beer Fest over the weekend, with special tappings like Allagash’s Century brett saison, Lost Abbey (Carnevale), Foundation (Eddy), Smuttynose (2009 Farmhouse ale), Brooklyn’s Other Half (Brett Saison aged in French Oak Chardonnay Barrels), and more.

Kirkland Tap & Trotter

Whether you’re attending the Extreme Beer Fest or not, you should try and make your way to Tony Maws’ more casual Somerville spot for a special Sunday brunch. Maws will be serving a handful of stick-to-your-ribs (i.e., hangover-curing) dishes, along with some fun beers on tap for the occasion. If you’re lucky, you may even spot the owner of Dogfish Head…you know, the guy who was recently named the best brewer in the world (no big deal).

March 22, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., 425 Washington St., Somerville; 857-259-6585 or kirklandtapandtrotter.com.

Lord Hobo

Following the success of their all West Coast tap takeover on March 18, Lord Hobo will dedicate a chunk of their draft lines to Port Brewing’s Lost Abbey line of beers.

Thursday 19, 92 Hampshire St., Cambridge; 617-250-8454 or lordhobo.com.
