With its verdant shrimp saag, fiery goat vindaloo, freshly-baked roti, and unique Bangladeshi bhuna dishes, Shanti has been a destination for Indian food in the Boston area since it opened 15 years ago in Dorchester. Now, Cantabrigians can get their fix without crossing the river. Shanti will open its third location in Kendall Square on Tuesday, February 23.

As the first current Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant in Kendall Square, the team at Shanti looks forward to adding variety to the already bustling local restaurant scene,” the family company announced in a press release. “Eating at Shanti is an opportunity to learn about a region that is largely unknown to the rest of the world.”

Solmon and Rokeya Chowdhury started their growing restaurant empire, the Shanti Boston Group, with the original Shanti in 1999, and opened a Roslindale outpost in 2013. The chef favorite also earned a Best of Boston nod in 2012. The Chowdhurys have two other concepts: Dudley Café, which opened this past fall in the Bolling municipal building, and Monroe, a Central Square restaurant and lounge that was previously two separate concepts, Naga and Moksa.

Shanti Cambridge is located on the ground floor of the Watermark building, with an entrance on Broad Canal Way. It will seat 50 and also has an outdoor patio. The new space has a similar vibrant color palette and warm interior design as the other locations.

Chef Andy Pokhrel is offering the same menu in Cambridge, including clay oven tandoori specialties, like achari tikka, chicken malai kabab, and tandoori salmon; plus a variety of pakora and samosas; spicy curries, fruity patia, goat dishes, and vegetarian and vegan options. The new location will also host regular spice classes and prix-fixe dinners.

The Kendall Square restaurant will serve lunch and dinner daily, as well as a lunch buffet from 11:30-3 p.m., and will also offer catering and delivery. It opens at 11:30 a.m.
