Peter Tam wants his debut clothing store, Uncle Pete’s, to feel “like a mom-and-pop shop.” Never mind the soundtrack — songs so new even your “DJ” cousin hasn’t heard them — or the fact that the décor resembles a 28-year-old’s dream loft. Those stylish touches come naturally to the highly approachable Tam, who opened shop on Charles Street after five years as a buyer at the Tannery and Concepts. His inventory includes hard-to-find pieces for women and men by Rogues Gallery and Sea, and boasts Boston exclusives of Nice Collective and Doo Ri’s Underligne label. And while Uncle Pete’s may be a departure from Beacon Hill’s antiques stores and cutesy gift shops, Tam says, “it’s my job to be laid-back and welcoming enough that the residents will want to be introduced to these brands.”
