Stan Rosenberg Never Got His Invite to Big Papi’s Fenway Farewell

It was a splendid scene at Fenway Park, in spite of the miserable weather. Gov. Charlie Baker, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, and Mayor Marty Walsh converged at Fenway Park to honor David Ortiz before his last regular season game at the ballpark’s he’s called home for the last 14 seasons. Political power met batting power.

Baker and DeLeo presented Big Papi with a sign for a nearby bridge to be named in his honor. Walsh, a street sign for the Yawkey Way Extension slated to receive a similar treat. And Senate President Stan Rosenberg… watched from home.

He never got his invitation.

Former Senate President and “crypto Yankee fan” Robert Travaglini was tasked with rounding up Beacon Hill’s Big Three ahead of the game, the Globe reports, and left a voicemail on Rosenberg’s personal phone, which the 66-year-old Amherst Democrat says he never retrieved.

It’s okay, Mr. President. There will always be next— Oh.
