First look at National Jean Company on Newbury

I stopped by the new National Jean Company Boston at 218 Newbury Street (formerly Callalilai) this morning, right before the store opened to the public. The 2,300-square-foot space features fireplaces and antique chandeliers from Yankee Crafstmen, and will soon boast a coffee bar for customers — owner Steven Simon says he wants it to feel like a “European-style boutique.”

The shop carries the denim lines you’ve come to covet at the Newton and Wellesley locations, such as J Brand, Paige, and DL1961, as well as tops and dresses from Winter Kate and Elizabeth and James, bags by RomyGold, and pieces from National Jean Company’s in-house lines Mercer and Tobey Grey.
