May is here, and that means it’s officially road race season. If you’re looking to hit the streets and start getting beach ready again, take a look at our round-up of road races happening in the Boston area this month.

City Running Tours

These runs through some of Boston’s most vibrant neighborhoods are led by knowledgable tour guides, and include stops to take in the sights and scenery. Upcoming runs include MIT/Cambridge (5/15), Beacon Hill/Back Bay (5/16) and Fenway to Copley (5/19).

Route for Kids

Hosted by Horizons for Homeless Children, this 5K run/walk through Jamaica Plain’s Southwest Corridor Park raises money for Boston’s homeless children.

Fenway High School 5K

Support the Fenway High School annual fund while taking in the great outdoors at the Fens. A celebratory breakfast will follow the race from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Harpoon 5-Miler

The 12th annual Harpoon Brewery 5-mile road race benefits the Angel Fund, a group devoted to ALS research. And as if a good cause and getting some exercise wasn’t enough, the race ends back at the brewery for beer, music, and food.

Newburyport River Run Half Marathon and Relay

Either run the half marathon yourself or as a team of three as you travel from downtown Newburyport to the scenic areas surrounding it. Bonus: The course is flat, so it’s great for first-timers.

Fresh Food Run

The National Farmers Market Association is putting on this 5K and 1-miler with the goal of educating individuals and families about the benefits of fresh produce and supporting local farmers.

Boston’s Run to Remember

Sponsored by the Boston Police Department and Boston Police Runner’s Club, this race, which can be run either as a half marathon or a 5-miler, is an event to honor and remember officers killed in the line of duty.
