Politicians Predict the Red Sox Season

If you want to get elected to office in Massachusetts, you'd better make it clear that you're part of Red Sox Nation.

With the thrill of baseball back upon us, I asked local pols via Twitter for their predictions of the number of games the team will win in 2014, and who will be the team’s most valuable player for the season.

Below are the predictions I’ve received, and I’ll continue to accept and post more as I receive them, up through Friday’s home opener.

Boston Elected Officials

Will Brownsberger, state senator: my team says 94 wins. Office optimists say Sizemore for MVP

Mark Ciommo, city councilor: Red Sox will win 89 games. Team MVP will go to none other than @davidortiz.

Ed Coppinger, state representative: 90 wins -MVP will be #westroxbury and @GoNUathletics own @J_Mul34 b/c his strikeouts of Papi and Pedrioa are sox only highlight

Dan Cullinane, state representative: my prediction for Red Sox total wins is 89. Sox MVP Clay Buchholz. Happy opening day!

Sal DiDomenico, state senator: Red Sox 96 wins – Pedroia is MVP

Tito Jackson, city councilor: 89 +Papi!

Bill Linehan, city councilor: 97 Wins & Big Papi MVP

Jay Livingston, state representative: it’s going to be a great year! 97 wins, Pedroia MVP.

Tim McCarthy, city councilor: 88 wins- Lackey with 17 wins!

Aaron Michelwitz, state representative: 90 wins, earn a wild card slot, Lester wins team MVP & then leaves for free agency!

Matt O’Malley, city councilor: 95 wins,@15Lasershow [Dustin Pedroia] for MVP.

Ayanna Pressley, city councilor: 95 wins and @XanderBogaerts is MVP!

Mike Rush, state senator: 92 wins, Xander Bogaerts MVP!

Michelle Wu, city councilor: 92 wins, 上原 浩治 Koji [Uehara] MVP!!

Josh Zakim, city councior: 93 wins and Big Papi!

Other Elected Officials

Paul Brodeur, state representative: Sox win 97. Healthy Pedroia has AL MVP-like year. Bucholz my dark horse if he can make 30+ starts.

Gary Christenson, Malden Mayor: I’m predicting 89 wins and that Dustin Pedroia will be MVP.

Katherine Clark, Congresswoman: 92wins. I said @15Lasershow for MVP but I’ve been overruled by my 11yo. He says @davidortiz so Big Papi it is!

Joe Curtatone, Somerville mayor: 93 wins, Clay Buchholz MVP

Geoff Diehl, state representative: 95 wins, Lester gets season MVP, Lasershow gets ALDS MVP, Koji gets ALCS MVP, Napoli gets WS MVP.

Will Flanagan, Fall River mayor: I’ll predict 90 wins with Pedroia as MVP

Mark Hawke, Gardner mayor: answer is Xander Bogaerts and 89 wins.

Bob Hedlund, state senator: 93 wins. Pedroia

Kirsten Hughes, Republican Party chairwoman: 96 wins and MVP David Ortiz.

Bill Keating, Congressman: 93 wins and @15Lasershow will be the team MVP

Joe Kennedy, Congressman: Going with 94 wins and the team MVP has to be @15lasershow

Tom Koch, Quincy mayor: 94 wins, @15Lasershow is MVP. World Series opponents, for 1st time, don’t complain about staying at Quincy Marriott.

David Linskey, state representative: 97 wins and Dustin Pedroia as MVP.

Stevphen Lynch, Congressman: Looking for the @RedSox to repeat as champs and Daniel Nava having a breakout year.

Ed Markey, US Senator: 95 Wins! Pedroia for MVP!

Tom McGee, Democratic Party chairman: 93 wins, @mikenapoli25 as MVP.

Jim McGovern, Congressman: My kids Molly & Patrick made the call for me: Napoli for MVP and 85 wins.

Richard Moore, state senator: Our Sox will win 90 games and I expect MVP-type redemption for @middlebrooks at 3B

Stephen Murphy, city councilor: Conservative estimate… 90 Wins and Will Middlebrooks for MVP.

David Narkewicz, Northampton mayor: 93 wins, Pedroia MVP, duck boat parade Nov 1

Dan Rizzo, Revere mayor: 94 wins Pedroia mvp!

Marian Ryan, Middlesex DA: 91 wins, Pedroia MVP.

Niki Tsongas, Congresswoman: Wins in the 90s: no specifics = no jinxing it (hard to shake the superstition of a Boston fan!) – MVP to @15Lasershow [Pedroia]

Elizabeth Warren, US Senator: I’m going with 96 #Redsox wins in 2014 – & looking fwd to the first W today. @davidortiz for team MVP

Statewide Candidates

James Arena-DeRosa, candidate for lieutenant governor: 94 wins – Pedroia

Joe Avellone, candidate for governor: 89 Wins; Wild Card, Grady Sizemore

Charlie Baker, candidate for governor: 90 / Pedroia as MVP. Not very original I know – but seems about right.

Don Berwick, candidate for governor: @redsox get 94 wins—1st in AL East. @XanderBogaerts breakout MVP.

Leland Cheung, candidate for lieutenant governor: If last year’s playoffs are any indication, Xandar Bogaerts is primed to lead the team to at least 90 wins.

Martha Coakley, candidate for governor: 95 wins and Koji for MVP

Tom Conroy, candidate for state treasurer: I predict 95 wins and an MVP season from Clay Buckholz.

David D’Arcangelo, candidate for Secretary of State: Sox wins should be around 91, MVP should be Pedroia, Sox contend for Pennant but come up short

Evan Falchuk: (a) 93 wins, (b) Dustin Pedroia

Barry Finegold, candidate for state treasurer: @RedSox will have 92 wins, I’m going bold and predicting @JackieBradleyJr as team MVP.

Deb Goldberg, candidate for state treasurer: #RedSox will win 95 games with @davidortiz as MVP!

Steve Grossman, candidate for governor: 92 wins, MVP Dustin “@15Lasershow” Pedroia!

Maura Healey, candidate for Attorney General: 2014’s a year of optimism and “newcomers” – 94 wins, Bogaerts for MVP.

Mike Heffernan, candidate for state treasurer: Consulting with in-house baseball expert Jack Heffernan (my son) and we say 87 wins and Buckholz for MVP!

Brian Herr, candidate for US Senate: 91 wins and Pedroia for MVP.

Juliette Kayyem, candidate for governor: 92 games with Lester for the MVP.

Steve Kerrigan, candidate for lieutenant governor: my prediction is 93 wins for the Sox & Middlebrooks for MVP!!!

Mike Lake, candidate for lieutenant governor: 91 wins and Ortiz MVP!

Jeff McCormick, candidate for governor: team wins=95, mvp=xander bogaerts

Karyn Polito, candidate for lieutenant governor: I predict 93 wins and Pedroia MVP. Go Red Sox!

Warren Tolman, candidate for Attorney General: @RedSox win 92 games, with @15Lasershow [Dustin Pedroia] as MVP because he puts every ounce of energy into it.

Other Candidates

John Chatman, congressional candidate: 94 wins with @davidortiz as MVP (can’t bet against Big Papi)

Seth Moulton, congressional candidate: 93 wins, Sizemore for MVP

Dan Shores, congressional candidate: 2014 Sox secure 98 wins, with Xander Bogaerts as MVP (with usual D.Ortiz heroics).
