Spend Your Lunch Break Playing Bubble Soccer in Boston Common

The Beautiful Game just got...buoyant?

Update: Tuesday, 9:20 a.m. — Slight change of plans. Social Boston Sports’ flash bubble soccer games will take place solely at the Boston Common today, from 11:15 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. I’ll be there, so bring your A-game.

Remember when the U.S. Women’s National Team routed Japan in the World Cup Final in spectacular fashion? That was great. Now, instead of BC Place in Vancouver, imagine all that pomp and circumstance taking place in the Boston Common. And instead of Carli Lloyd notching the fastest hat trick in World Cup history, it’s you out there, facing not Aya Miyama and Homare Sawa, but other working folk on their lunch breaks. And everyone is encased in giant plastic bubbles.

Admittedly, the flash bubble soccer game in the Common on Tuesday, organized by Social Boston Sports, will be a far cry from the USWNT’s historic victory. But it’ll still be way more fun than whatever you already had planned for lunch.

At 11:15 a.m., bubblers(?) will converge on Copley Square and play the fast-growing sport, before a second game in the Common kicks off at 12:20 p.m. Passersby can participate at no cost in what Social Boston Sports is calling Boston’s first public display of bubble soccer.

Remember: Bubble soccer is a full-contact sport. So suit up and get out there, champ.
