That’s why we’ve rounded-up 20 local interior designers who you absolutely need to follow. Hear from them in their own words below.

Desiree Burns Interiors

My Design Style
Relaxed, collaborative, and earthy-glam.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
I love seeing a vision come to life, so I always look forward to install day. Styling the space and bringing everything together is one of the most rewarding parts of the process for me.

My Favorite Instagram Post
This is a recent project I did in Milton. I’m really loving arches right now—doors, windows, entryways, and shelves. I also really love the the color combination of the navy island and flowers.

Evolve Residential

Our Design Style
Energized and experimental traditionalism.

Our Favorite Part of What We Do
Nothing can beat the moment when clients see the very first [part] of our vision implemented. Sometimes with just one piece of furniture or a new paint color or wallpaper the transformation has begun. The excitement and wonder of the process in this moment feels like magic.

Our Favorite Instagram Post
The desk area in this image tells a story about the space without even showing much of the client’s home. The color also makes such an impact, and people want to know more about us and this project instantly.

Gina Baran Interiors + Design

Our Design Style
Classic, modern, and approachable.

Our Favorite Part of What We Do
We are passionate about improving our clients lives through design. Watching our clients thrive within their everyday life by elevating the interior is a favorite moment that lasts long after the reveal.

Our Favorite Instagram Post
While this space in Windham, New Hampshire looks refined yet comfortable, one would never assume that four children and two dogs live here. So every single piece we selected is not only aesthetically pleasing, but most importantly, kid-friendly.

Grapevine Interiors

Our Design Style
Personal, durable, and fun.

Our Favorite Part of What We Do
We love the whole process, but hearing that the client is having friends and family over and enjoying their improved space is a highlight.

Our Favorite Instagram Post
Below is our favorite post because the design is a fresh take on a historical room. The dog brings some life into this Duxbury guest bedroom, too, which makes it a great post.

Hudson Interior Designs

My Design Style
Ever-evolving, eclectic, and comfortable.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
When the client really allows you to take the inspiration they’ve shown and bring it to reality.

My Favorite Instagram Post
Most images on Instagram are so curated or adjusted, but this kitchen is nice because it’s a real shot showing the stage in-between the “before and after.” It’s nice for people to see that a project doesn’t happen in a snap.

ID8 Design Studio

My Design Style
Avant-garde.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
Simply put, I love what I do and cannot see myself doing anything else. I’m a bit of a tortured-artist personality until I get that moment of clarity and the vision unfolds for the space. [That vision] has to balance the client’s needs while also fully embracing the architecture and natural light to its fullest. It’s a very intuitive gut feeling that is hard to describe. But most times, the space will reveal itself to me like a three-dimensional rendering. That is the moment that keeps me going.

My Favorite Instagram Post
This post from a home in Wellesley reflects what I value most as a designer: the balance of texture, material, and the influence of light. It demonstrates that the smallest detail can matter most when thinking through how a user might interact [with a space] visually or physically.

Justine Sterling Design

My Design Style
Form, function, and feeling.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
I love a good space-planning challenge and presenting many ways that a client’s home can be transformed spatially.

My Favorite Instagram Post
I chose this image for so many reasons. The first being that this is in the home of longstanding clients. The room was fully transformed from a basic three-season porch, and the adjacent room was opened up to create a connection between the kitchen and dining room. I love a renovation that transforms spaces into more functional living [areas]. Lastly, the palette is neutral but full of texture, and we also had the opportunity to advise on art and accessories for the project.

Kate Coughlin Interiors

Our Design Style
A fresh take on traditional.

Our Favorite Part of What We Do
The best part of our job is working with trusting clients. Every room needs a surprise, and it’s these things that a client might initially struggle with, but that end up making a room. Our test is always, “Do we truly love it?” and “Would we want to live there?”

Our Favorite Instagram Post
When entrusted to design a client’s summer house in a storied Maine community, we had to find a way to bring in their love of color without distracting from the waterfront views and maintaining the ease of coastal living. The image is our favorite because the whole project was such a positive experience with trusting clients who let us carry out a fun design that we truly love.

Kelly Rogers Interiors

My Design Style
Bold, serene, and family-centered.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
The concepting phase of any project is absolutely my favorite: when we are thinking creatively about functional and decorative solutions to challenges our clients are completely stumped by and often think are insurmountable. We are problem-solvers at the very core of things; it’s just a wonderful bonus that those solutions also involve creating something beautiful and one-of-a-kind.

My Favorite Instagram Post
I love this image and project because it exemplifies everything I’m passionate about when it comes to design and working with clients. We helped this family solve a real issue (two sisters wanted to sleep in the same room even though they had their own bedrooms), and gave two young girls a thoughtfully decorated space that will work just as well when they are teenagers. It is vibrant and fun, yet we made so many practical choices. It can truly be lived in without worry.

Kristina Crestin Design

My Design Style
Fresh, thoughtful, and approachable.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
Working on the project vision. It’s the transition point from taking the information about the client’s needs and wants, and then starting to work through the process of defining the aesthetics of the space through images and words. I love curating all of that information into a document that summarizes where I think we are headed.

My Favorite Instagram Post
I love this post because it touches on so many aspects of my life and how they all come together. It’s a professional shot of a great modern cottage project where we brought in my dog, Cooper, to bring life into the space. Then, when you slide to the next two pictures, it shows the behind-the-scenes [shots] of me twisted on the ground (with treats!) to get her to stay and my husband placing her paws on the arm [of the sofa]. My husband also worked on this new construction project. It’s a real snapshot of a day in [my] life.

Mackenzie & Company

My Design Style
Collaborative, client-centered, and curated.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
My favorite part of the design process is the moment it becomes clear what my inspiration is. Typically my inspiration comes from places and fashion.

My Favorite Instagram Post
The reason I chose this photo is that this project, a lovely old stone construction in Westwood, had a unique older aesthetic that we were asked to modernize without it losing its old charm.

Meredith Rodday Design

My Design Style
Clean, casual, and sophisticated.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
I love starting new designs and finding exactly the right pieces to fit the aesthetic we’re trying to achieve.

My Favorite Instagram Post
It’s almost impossible to pick just one, but a recent favorite is my office because it shows the growth of my business.

Palm & Prep

My Design Style
Eclectic, coastal, and thoughtfully layered.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
I love creating a space that is an elevated version of my client. The best moment is when they walk into the completely finished room and they feel so taken care of—every last detail was thoughtfully curated just for them.

My Favorite Instagram Post
This is one my favorite spots in our home, and the only one that is all mine. In my office, I let go of my normally neutral palette and played with a grown-up pink mixed with graphic art. Every piece of art on the gallery wall except for one was created by my sister, which adds an extra layer of good juju.

Rachel Reider Interiors

My Design Style
Sophisticated, fresh, and innovative.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
It’s the big reveal for sure! I love seeing our clients’ reactions when they first see their home after installation day and the excitement that comes from seeing the design come together. I’ve had more than one client liken it to adult Christmas morning.

My Favorite Instagram Post
I’d have to say it’s our Rachel Reider Interiors team photo. I feel so grateful to be part of a wonderful group of talented women whose support and never-ending dedication bring all of our interiors to life.

Reid Design

My Design Style
Elegant, modern, and functional.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
My goal with every project is to collaborate with my clients to design an environment that represents their personality and aesthetic. My favorite moment is the thrill we both feel when our design goals are met and my client truly feels at home in their new space.

My Favorite Instagram Post
I love this photo because it was such a fabulous project with a truly fantastic client. It was a perfect blend of our visions.

Sarah Scales Design Studio

My Design Style
Timeless, simple, and practical.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
Space planning.  I love the process of thinking about how a room or a space will be used and landing on a final plan.  Finalizing the space plan means I can get to work and focus on the details: the elevations, selecting materials and finishes, and sorting through architectural elements.

My Favorite Instagram Post
I’m all about sharing GIFS. They’re not quite a video and not quite a still photo, so you get a little more action than the standard post.  I’ve been making these myself with “extra” shots from my photo shoots for a couple of years because I like showing my work with some life in it. Plus, it’s a cool space: a navy mini bar with a marble, chevron backsplash.

Shannon Tate Interiors

My Design Style
Global modern elegance.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
Getting to meet all different kinds of people and starting to percolate on what type of vibe would be right for them. And when it comes to the process, my favorite moment is when I’m doing the final styling and get to see every last bit of my vision finally come to reality. It never gets old.

My Favorite Instagram Post
This post really feels like it encapsulates me and how my mind works. It also gives insight into my creative process. It’s probably my favorite because the combination of the swaying tree and the song slow me down and make me feel completely at peace.  Music is so influential in how we perceive the world.  You can count on it to create a mood and I use it like medicine—assembling playlists based on how I want to feel creatively and personally.

Squarehouse Studios

Our Design Style
Modern, vibrant, and curated.

Our Favorite Part of What We Do
Steven Santosuosso: To me, the reveal makes it all worth it. When the client first meets their new space, you see them realize just how far they’ve traveled during the course of the design process.

Mary Flo Ouellette: I love the collaboration with clients—really getting down to what lights them up and also what they need to function every day. When you can connect on those things and deliver, that is truly satisfying.

Our Favorite Instagram Post
With the furniture, colors, and accents, this room in Roslindale embodies fun. Kids’ rooms typically give you more freedom to turn [the design] way up, which we love. (And everybody wants that bed!)

Steven Favreau

My Design Style
Theatrical, sophisticated, world-class.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
I love every aspect: working with the client, brainstorming with staff, designing custom pieces, searching for the ideal materials, collaborating with artisans and contractors. But if I had to choose one moment it would be the install, when months and months of work all come together.

My Favorite Instagram Post
I chose this photo of our headquarters in the Seaport because it is such a spectacular space at 11,000-square-feet, but also because of the exciting mix of industrial, vintage, and antique pieces as well as graffiti. My designs almost always have a mixture of old and new or sublime and profane that, when paired together, elevate the whole.

Thayer Design Studio

My Design Style
Layered, natural, and cozy.

My Favorite Part of What I Do
Hands down my favorite part is the people. I love when we are all collectively working together to do our part and then see the results. That includes the clients, but also all the vendors, contractors, and other people we work with to make the client’s home and ideas come together.

My Favorite Instagram Post
This one just makes me happy. It feels real and lived in, with things that are collected, found, new, and old. It’s a section of my own house that I feel really represents us as a family.
