Watch the Trailer for The Equalizer Starring Denzel Washington
Denzel Washington channels his inner Liam Neeson in the first trailer for The Equalizer, an action movie filmed in Boston last year.
The first trailer for The Equalizer, which was released this weekend, offers the gist of the plot: Robert McCall (Washington), a former black ops commando who faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston, comes out of retirement to save a young girl (Chloe Grace Moretz), only to land himself in a pile of trouble with Russian gangsters.
Washington basically outlines the story at the beginning of the trailer, when Moretz’s character Teri asks McCall what his book is about. “It is about a guy who is a knight in shining armor, except he lives in a world where knights don’t exist anymore,” replies McCall.
Later, while he’s going after the bad guys, comes the Jason-Statham/Bruce-Willis/Liam-Neeson line: “I’m here about a girl.” He then beats up five mobsters in 19 seconds.
Based on the 1980s TV show of the same name, the thriller was shot last summer around Salisbury, Hamilton, Chelsea, Haverhill, and East Boston. The trailer doesn’t show too many Boston scenes, though a few outdoor/skyline shots do appear.
Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) directed the film, which also stars Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and Bill Pullman (Independence Day).
The Equalizer is slated for release on September 26.
