To say the Glomsruds were on a fast track would be an understatement. Ryan met Elizabeth’s whole family on their first date—a blind one, set up by her mother—and six months later, the couple were engaged. They soon found themselves in the backyard of Elizabeth’s parents’ home in Marion, exchanging vows in front of 70 of their nearest and dearest. “When you know, you know,” she says. That also held true for the dress. “I had plans to fly to New York to look,” she remembers. “But on a whim, I walked into a local bridal shop. I tried on an Oscar de la Renta and that was that.” When it came to planning the actual event, Elizabeth left the decision-making to the pros. “I didn’t get bogged down in the minutiae, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.” We’re guessing her mom’s pretty happy with the end result, too.

The bride wore her J.Crew heels all night. “They were a muddy mess by the end,” she says.

Bridesmaids helped Elizabeth down the stairs in her Oscar de la Renta gown.

(From left, top to bottom) To play up the garden-party theme, her parents’ landscape architect added lush plantings around the ceremony tent.

Roses, hydrangeas, sweet peas, and lisianthus adorned the tables.

The bridesmaids wore Priscilla of Boston dresses.

The tea light –filled pool was the focal point of the dinner tent. Luckily, Elizabeth says, “Nobody fell in!”

Elizabeth’s uncle provided a selection of cigars and scotches for the reception.

An all-white cake provided a blank canvas for bright blooms.

“We were going for an intimate dinner-party feel,” Elizabeth says of the seating arrangement. “The whole thing felt very Gatsby-esque.”
