Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Robert Redford Are Coming to Massachusetts

Each of the esteemed actors will make appearances in the area throughout the next two months.

Three of the biggest names in Hollywood will make their way to Massachusetts soil this summer. Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Robert Redford will all be in the area on separate days throughout the next two months to attend celebrity events, forums, and other glitzy functions. Here are the details:

MCC Celebrity Forum: Robert Redford

The actor/director/Sundance Institute founder is being celebrated at the Middlesex Community College Celebrity Forum’s 16th anniversary. The forum is known for bringing around celebs for the “educational” and “cultural enrichment” of Massachusetts residences. Past years’ speakers include Colin Powell, George H. W. Bush, Jay Leno, and Michael J. Fox. In other words, this is a standard event where people can hear a fan-favorite speak about inspiring things.

5th Annual Summer Awards Celebration Honoring Robert De Niro Sr., Robert De Niro Jr., and Ann Patchett

De Niro, the yin to Pacino’s yang, will make his way to the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown for its 5th Annual Summer Awards Celebration. The festivities will celebrate De Niro’s artist and philanthropist father, the late Robert De Niro Sr., as well as renowned author Ann Patchett. The event will have an exhibit showcasing De Niro Sr.’s abstract art called Robert De Niro Sr.: Selected Works at the Hudson D. Walker Gallery.

De Niro Jr. recently sat down with Out magazine to discuss his relationship with his father in light of HBO’s documentary Remembering the Artist Robert De Niro Sr. airing on June 9. As the magazine says, in a way, De Niro Jr. came out for his father in this Q&A. He discusses intimate details of his childhood and his father’s despair with his sexual orientation. “Do you think he was conflicted about his life’s passion?” the magazine asked, to which De Niro answered:

About his homosexuality? Yeah, he probably was, being from that generation, especially from a small town upstate. I was not aware, much, of it. I wish we had spoken about it much more. My mother didn’t want to talk about things in general, and you’re not interested when you’re a certain age.

The De Niros’ father-son relationship is explored more in the HBO documentary, which will also be screened at a private screening on the Friday before the Summer Awards Celebration.

$300+, Saturday, July 12, 6:30 p.m., Fine Arts Work Center, 24 Pearl St., Provincetown, 508-487-9960, fawc.org/tickets.
