Baseball wasn’t around in William Shakespeare’s day—they were more into quail-fighting and troll-my-dame. But we’re sure the playwright would have been honored to have his work performed at our historic Fenway Park.

On September 19, to celebrate its 20th anniversary, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company will present “Shakespeare at Fenway,” a night of performances of the Bard’s work. Think: “Shakespeare on the Common,” but at Fenway. Instead of one particular work, the company will perform famous scenes from a number of Shakespeare plays.

“All the ballpark’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players,” said Red Sox President/CEO Larry Lucchino in a press release. “We look forward to welcoming the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company to Fenway Park as they perform scenes from one of the world’s pre-eminent dramatists. We hope our ‘lyric little bandbox of a ballpark’ will be the perfect backdrop to the plays of the Bard and the performances of the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s talented artists.”

General admission tickets for the event are free and will be available starting Friday, August 22, at noon. “All Star” tickets for preferred seating are $35, and “MVP” tickets for priority seating and access to a post-performance reception are $125.

“Shakespeare at Fenway builds on a long and productive partnership between Commonwealth Shakespeare Company and the City of Boston,” Mayor Martin J. Walsh said in the release. “From free performances on Boston Common to workshops in our public schools, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company has made these great works accessible to all. Thanks to their generosity, even more citizens and non-profit groups will now be able to experience Shakespeare at this spectacular evening inside the legendary Fenway Park.”
