A construction worker at the site of the Wynn Boston Harbor project in Everett died of an on-the-job injury Tuesday, the company said in an announcement.

“The Wynn Boston Harbor family regretfully learned this morning that a member of our construction team lost his life after sustaining injuries on our site yesterday,” Wynn spokesman Greg John said in a statement. “This is a very sad day for everyone at Wynn Boston Harbor. Our deepest condolences and heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his family and coworkers.”

An investigation is now underway into the worker’s death, which reportedly involved the use of an unspecified piece of heavy machinery.

“On behalf of the City of Everett, I want to offer our condolences to his family, friends and co-workers in this challenging time.,” Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy.”

The $2.4 billion hotel and casino is slated to open in the summer of 2019. Construction has continued on an at-risk basis since its CEO and namesake, Steve Wynn, announced he would leave the company after he was accused of sexual assault. Wynn Resorts executives are now mulling a name change for the property.
