It’s easy to imagine the rugged, sea-spray flecked coast visible from the wrap-around porch of this massive Rockport manor came straight out of a fantasy novel. The five bedroom and five and-a-half bathroom stunner is dubbed “Braemere”—or “Meadow by the Sea” in Gaelic—which is about as evocative (and apt) a name as it gets.

Start outside and drink in the panoramic vistas of the ocean along with nearby Camborne Pond and Milk Island—with the striking blue hues contrasting with the lush green of the five-plus acres of the grounds. Rock walls and walkways lead the way to the dark gray shingle-style manor that seems to rise out of the landscape like a cliff.

Earth tones may abound outside, but inside, things are nothing short of heavenly. Though the property was first built in 1997, a 2019 renovation saw an overhaul of the bathrooms and the addition of radiant heat and new limestone and walnut floors. The current owner also cooked up a completely new kitchen with marble countertops and a back splash, along with the unexpected deep teal cabinets and the hood and light fixtures, which glint with gold. The kitchen and the adjoining sitting area are united by a shiplap ceiling that hints at a nautical theme without tipping into seaside cliché.

Another high point of the house is the formal dining room, which flows into a spacious sitting room with a fireplace, as well as the sunroom that easily doubles as a fitness center for morning peddles on the Peloton. Elsewhere, bedrooms boast vaulted ceilings, wood detailing, and wonderful water vistas.

But the real winner in this fantasy homestead might be the main suite. Soak in the oasis of the adjoining bath and cozy up with an evening cup of tea in the private sitting area with its soaring ceilings and windows that look out over the grounds. Venture out onto the suite’s secluded deck, too, where it feels like you’re soaring high above a meadow by the sea.
