Sew You

Your fantasy dress becomes your reality at this Boston store.

You are truly the center of attention at Boston’s Annique Bridal Couture, where owner Annique (just one name, à la Cher) can pluck your fantasy dress out of your dreams with her custom dressmaking services, based not just on your measurements, but on who you are. “When she walks in, I will know,” she says. “I need a little bit of information about her personality.”

Other factors you might not have thought of are considered too: the colors of your venue, the season (especially if the wedding is outdoors), even the height of your groom. Then comes the technical stuff: taking measurements, selecting a pattern, a fitting in a muslin version—then, the final sewing of your one-of-a-kind dress.

“It’s a process. We have to make sure we’re both satisfied before she walks down the aisle,” says Annique. She works mostly with silk and has the dresses hand-beaded in India. Such careful handiwork takes time, so make an appointment 7-12 months before the wedding. Also, take advantage of the custom veil- and sash-making services, and the look will be absolutely, 100 percent you.
