A Connecticut Bathroom Gets a Retreat-Style Makeover

An outdated beachfront home gets an airy master bath made for soaking by the sea.

The Problem

The owners of a ’90s-era property in coastal Connecticut sought a sleek, spa-like transformation for their dated master bathroom with dazzling shoreline views.

The Solution

Tanner White, principal of Tanner White Architects, dreamed up an all-white oasis framed by a showstopping picture window. To bring the serene setting to life, White chose glossy, reflective materials, including oversize Glassos porcelain tiles for the floor and glass walls for the shower. The pièce de résistance? A contemporary freestanding tub looking out onto the beach. “We wanted the residents to feel like they were walking into a retreat, somewhere outside of the home,” White says.
