Three Suspects Arrested in Connection With Marathon Bombing

Boston Police have taken three more people into custody in connection with the marathon bombings on April 15, according to reports.

On Wednesday, May 1, officers said from their official Twitter account that they had apprehended additional “suspects” allegedly connected to the attack.

In a follow-up to their social media announcement, officers would not comment on the exact charges, because “it’s all kind of unfolding.” Police said there was no immediate threat to the public as the investigation continues. “Aside from the aforementioned, there is no additional info to release at this time. Additional details will be provided when they become available,” police said in a statement.

Reports indicate that the suspects have been under surveillance for the last 10 days, and possibly removed items from a dorm room. This could explain why investigators spent so much time combing through trash and debris at a landfill in New Bedford, located near the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth, where the younger bombing suspect, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, went to school. Dzhokar is in federal custody and was charged with the use of a weapon of mass destruction, resulting in death, as well as malicious destruction of property, resulting in death, in connection with the attacks carried out with his older brother, Tamerlan. Tamerlan was killed in a shootout with police in Watertown days after the bombing.

In the days following the attack in Boston, Dzhokhar allegedly went back to his dorm and went to the gym, tweeting casually that he was a “stress free kind of guy,” from his alleged Twitter account.

A call to UMass Dartmouth officials to find out if there is a connection with the school and the arrests that were made was not immediately returned.

The Globe reports that the suspects were apprehended by federal officials and were “connected to Dzhokhar” at UMass Dartmouth.

CBS News reports that two of the alleged suspects will be charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice and false statements, while the third will be charged with false statements. FBI officials would not comment on the arrests, and referred a Boston reporter to the U.S. District Attorney’s office.
