David Ortiz’s Face Mowed into the Grass at Fenway

The latest tribute to the slugger is a big green portrait in the outfield.

Another tribute has cropped up for the outgoing slugger David Ortiz.

Fenway Park now sports an enormous portrait of Big Papi in its outfield grass, just in time for his last regular season games at home.

Ortiz’s iconic post-homerun pose, his fingers pointed skyward, has at this point been immortalized in countless ways, from Lego to donuts.

Now all we need from Ortiz is a big ol’ homer when the Sox face the Blue Jays. We can already picture it sailing right over the enormous grassy mug.

The Sox this week also unfurled a giant blue-and-red banner of the star on the side of the stadium. “THANK YOU,” it reads.

The Red Sox face the Blue Jays tonight at 7:10 p.m., the first of three games before the final home game of the regular season on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Sox are asking fans to show up early for the games, as they plan special ceremonies for Ortiz.
