William King and Justin Moore may have been in rival fraternities during their college days, but that didn’t stop them from pledging their love to each other in the years leading up to their wedding day. The two met at a bar on Capitol Hill while attending George Washington University and became fast friends. “From the day we met till the day we married, we talked every day,” Justin says. Even after Justin, a Framingham native, moved back to Boston, and William started law school in New Orleans, “Not a day went by when we didn’t communicate with each other.”
The turning point in their relationship came when William had regrets about moving south. “As soon as I got down to New Orleans, I thought I should have come to Boston,” he says. So when Justin visited one Fourth of July, “I wrapped up my acceptance letter to a Boston law school and gave it to Justin, and the rest is history.”
For their wedding weekend, the couple chose a Maine venue close to Justin’s heart: Laudholm, which Justin’s father had helped establish in the 1980s. “I’ve been going to Wells since I was a child,” he says. “We thought the location would be perfect for us and really capture a place that makes us feel really happy and content.” William also felt a connection to the location: “There…seems to be something fitting about making a lifelong commitment on the grounds of a place that Justin’s parents worked so hard to preserve,” he says. And so it came to be that two rival fraternity brothers started a new chapter in their lives with an outdoor ceremony officiated by Justin’s mother, a minister. “Everyone was so happy that it just made the day feel really important and meaningful to me,” Justin says. “I couldn’t imagine it any other way.”

Hats were offered to guests at the outdoor ceremony. “William wanted to make sure everyone felt comfortable, and there was no way to predict temperature or direct sunlight,” Justin says.

For dessert, the couple served cheese wheels in the shape of a wedding cake, as well as whoopie pies and macarons.

“We knew we needed flowers, but we wanted them to have an element of masculinity,” says William of the floral arrangements. “We tried to incorporate darker colors and some natural herbs as well.”

To give the wedding a “dinner-party” feel, William and Justin set up one long table for guests, and served the food family-style.
