Verizon Donating $1.5 Million to Three Local Companies

It's a part of the Verizon Powerful Answers Awards.

Twelve companies across the nation have been awarded a share of $6 million through the Verizon Powerful Answers Awards. Three of those companies are local, and the total prize for the Boston-area is $1.5 million.

The winners include:

Vaxess Technologies, a biotech company based in Cambridge that is developing technology to support global access to stable vaccines that can withstand temperature variations. Vaxess won in the “Transportation” category.

Aldatu Biosciences, a Boston-based startup that is working on diagnostic solutions to enable physicians the flexibility to prescribe alternative medications to patients who show resistance to certain HIV treatments, will be awarded $250,000. The company won in the “Healthcare” category.

School Yourself, a Boston-based company that is working on a platform to create scalable, personalized education courses, will be awarded $250,000. School Yourself won in the “Education” category.

Verizon Wireless’ New England Region VP, Christine Berberich, will formally present oversized checks to the three companies at a private event on Saturday, April 11.

This event is all a part of the Verizon store’s grand opening on Boylston Street. After the private event, there will be guest DJs (KISS 108’s Billy Costa and Joe Public) and celebrity guests including social media stars Jack Gilinsky and Jack Johnson of “Jack & Jack” and Dorchester’s own Donnie Wahlberg.

Meet and greet passes will be randomly awarded to fans visiting the store throughout the day. Timing is as follows:

10 a.m. – 3 p.m. | Jack & Jack Meet and Greets (for pass winners), as well as special appearances inside the Verizon Destination Store

2 p.m. – 5 p.m. | Donnie Wahlberg Meet and Greets (for pass winners), as well as special appearances in the Verizon Destination Store
