After the cookies have settled and you’ve succumbed to the couch long enough, get your body up and moving and head to the gym—or don’t! That’s cool, too. If you do want to take part in the former, all Life Time Athletic locations across the country are free and open to the public from December 28-January 5.

Yep, you heard that right. The massive fitness center, which boasts beautiful cycling and yoga studios, plus spa-like amenities, will swing its doors open to everyone for what they’re calling “Commitment Day.” The movement is geared towards shifting from the idea of resolutions to the notion that simply taking “One Positive Action” towards a “healthier and happier life” is better than lofty goals that never get accomplished.

For all of you who have a hard time keeping a resolution past the first week of January, maybe this is the type of mindset re-frame you need heading into the New Year.

The closest club to Boston is in Chestnut Hill. The enormous gym spans 120,000 square feet and features eight stunning group fitness studios for everything from spin to yoga. There are enough squat racks, cardio machines, and weights to accommodate a football team all at once, and there are areas for small group and personal training. Plus, there’s even a spa, salon, kid’s club, medical office, a café, and a bar. You basically never have to leave. And keep your eyes peeled for the newest Life Time athletic coming to the North Shore later this year.

Events and activities may vary by Life Time location, but here’s what you can expect from December 28-January 5:

Sunday, December 29: Discover Yoga Experience
Wednesday, January 1: Commitment Day 5k Races and Starting Line Clinic and Fun Run
Thursday, January 2: You vs. You Group Training
Saturday, January 4: Family Workout Day

Although the facilities are free and open to the public during the week, Life Time is supporting Make-A-Wish, and donations are encouraged.

Free, December 28-January 5, all day, Life Time Chestnut Hill, 300 Boylston St., Newton, 781-797-2000, my.lifetime.life
