This Colonial construction in Cambridge was built by a sea captain 206 years ago, though not at the spot where it sits today. It was completed in Duxbury in 1810 by Captain Parker Hall, a famed seafarer known for navigating New England’s rough seas by himself. Later, in 1930, a Harvard professor purchased the home and ordered that it be transported almost 40 miles away to Cambridge. The house was dismantled in Duxbury, carried to Cambridge, and reconstructed on a new foundation at Gray Gardens West where it exists today.
A few more modern amenities have been added since the move, including granite countertops and cherry cabinetry in the kitchen. Original details like the home’s front entryway and pine wood floors remain. While the price tag may seem steep for four bedrooms, the house makes up for it with built-in floor-to-ceiling bookcases in the library and a few grand fireplaces.
