We don’t need to tell you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In this series, we ask local notables for a sneak peek at how they start the day.

Claim to fame: She’s a certified holistic health counselor and yoga instructor who coordinates wellness events around town.

What she ate: A smoothie bowl made with yogurt, beets, blueberries, and strawberries, topped with chia seeds, hemp seeds, and pumpkin seeds. She also had a homemade matcha tea latte made with almond milk.

Why she chose it: “My days are long. Most days I’m up by 5:45 a.m., and I usually don’t get home until about 8:30 or 8:45 p.m.,” she says. “With such a full schedule, it’s important that I start my day off with a nutrient-packed breakfast containing protein and healthy fats to stabilize my blood sugar and keep me fueled until lunch.”

As for the matcha? “I love coffee, but it doesn’t love me,” she says. “I’ve been trying to make an effort to switch to matcha in the morning, which I find still provides me an energy boost, but without the jittery side effects I feel when I drink coffee.”
