When it comes to serving the perfect glass of wine, a little breathing room goes a long way. So says Liz Vilardi, sommelier and wine director of Cambridge’s Belly Wine Bar and the Blue Room, who explains that decanting “helps a wine relax and show its best and true colors.” For her own vinos, she’s eyeing this handblown Deborah Ehrlich crystal vessel—ideal for aerating the rare 2007 Vietti Barolo she’s been saving for a special occasion: the 21st birthday of her son Lucian, now six. “I like that it’s handcrafted; it’s a piece someone worked really hard to make,” Vilardi says of the decanter, adding, “It’s gorgeously simple.”
